Open forum set for Anti Human Trafficking Bill
Since the cases of sex trafficking and forced labour, beggar have been increasing despite having constitutional prohibitions for them, there was an alarming need to have a specified law with enhanced punishment for the same. Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, which has been cleared by the Union cabinet recently. The bill proposes an imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life term for those involved in trafficking of humans for the purpose of begging, marriage, prostitution or labour, among others. The bill will become a law once it has been cleared by both houses of Parliament.
However, the women’s organizations in Pune have listed out some loopholes and some agendas which have not been addressed by the proposed bill but are of considerable importance.They have planned to have an open forum on April 18 Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018, along with the National Network of Sex workers.
