Delhi HC Extends Interim Relief For Chidambram In INX Media Case
Justice A. K Pathak, extended the May 31 interim order for protection against the arrest of former Union Minister P. Chidambram. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday extended interim relief to Chidambram giving him immunity from arrest until August 1 in INX Media case.
Chidambram approached the high court for anticipatory bail after he was summoned by CBI to join in questioning for his role regarding his Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval granted to INX Media.
Senior Conngress leader during his tenure as finance minister during which the FIBP had granted clearance to the alleged two ventures. Chidambram’s role had come under the scanner of CBI in Rs 3500 crore Aircel-Maxis deal, tracing back to 2G scam and Rs.. 305 crore approval to INX Media.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta opposed the bail application stating the he should have moved to the session court instead. “Enough evidence has emerged for he needs to be arrested,” Mehta said.
Next hearing is scheduled on August 1.
