Pakistan Assures India To Act Against Inimical Elements
The Pakistan Army has assured the Indian Army that it will take action against any bad elements near the Line of Control and give prompt response to any information shared by New Delhi regarding anti-terrorist operations. The Director General of Military Operations of both the country expressed their concerns and promised that peace and tranquillity will be maintained by both the countries.
The Indian DGMO pointed out that infiltration attempts by terrorists was a major concern. He also stated that Pakistan must institute measures to prevent infiltration from the launch pads located on their side of the LOC. In return the DGMO promised that the Indian Army will abide by its commitment to uphold the ceasefire understanding of 2003 only if Pakistan takes steps to control infiltration and abetment of terrorism in J&K. This move has reduced the cross border firing drastically.
The 2003 ceasefire understanding has been held as a major confidence building measure but India was not ready to formalise the ceasefire understanding into a written agreement. Since last year, the Indian Army had taken pro-active dominance of the LOC by conducting pre-emptive and targeted fire assaults against the Pakistan Army.
