Initiate Timely Action Against Corrupt Officials: GVC
Gujarat Vigilance Commission, while slamming the state government for failing to initiate timely action against those suspected of committing irregularities, has noted in its report that departments waste a long time in filing charge-sheet and initiating action against the accused even in cases where punitive action has been directed. The GVC is a body that recommends action against government employees involved in alleged cases of corruption.
The Commission further noted that guidelines of the general administration department are not followed by the senior department officials. The GVC, in its report, has added that it expects all departments to complete inquiries within the stipulated time period and has also asked the state government to file action-taken reports within the stipulated time.
In 2017, a total of 7,541 complaints were filed, which increased to 8,792 in 2018, observed the Commission. Officials of urban development & urban housing department recorded the highest number of complaints against them, followed by the panchayat, rural housing & rural development, department, revenue department, home department and education department.
